To simply put it, I love it here. The people, the church, the atmosphere, the area- it’s all wonderful!
My first church service this past Sunday was definitely different than the church services I attend back home. However, it was still good! The structure of the service is very similar but the size is where I find the most difference. It’s a big change going from a church with a couple thousand attenders to one of about 50. But there is an advantage to smaller size- unity and community. There is such a strong sense of unity amidst the church that I am more than privileged to be a part of. I can’t wait to see how Church in the Community reaches out to the community through community outreach events and the different bible studies and groups throughout the week.
After church on Sunday, myself and the three other interns went on a picnic lunch with Andy and his family. The company was just as rich as the view. Following that, us interns were invited over to a different family’s house for a barbecue dinner. Lonnie and his wife Rachel hosted us for the evening, which made us feel extremely welcome.
On Monday, I was able to meet several of the youth that I will be spending time with durning my two months here. They are absolutely lovely! I am so excited to get to know them more! Later that night, I played badminton for the first time and was surprisingly not too bad at it :) On Tuesday, us interns accompanied a member of the church named Alan to do a puppet show at one of the local schools. Alan uses his puppet shows to teach the children valuable lessons of life from stories in the Bible. On Tuesday night, I attended a house bible study, hosted by one of the two American missionary families here at Church in the Community. Then again on Wednesday, I attended a bible study at the church which is run by the other American missionary family.
I’m sure some of you are wondering what my living situation is like. I am actually living in a two bedroom unit that is part of the church building. I share a bunk with Jo Beth in the front room which also includes a kitchenette, washing machine and a sofa. In the other room, Nicole and Kaci share a bunk bed. In that same room is the bathroom and shower that we all share. Though the space is tight, we have made it work really well! It’s a good thing we all get along so well :)
On the next post, I'll do what I can to include some pictures! Cheers!
